Michelle Curtze is a licensed professional counselor specializing in treating clients of all ages who experience anxiety disorders, depression, impulse disorders and eating disorders.  With a solution-focused approach, she encourages and assists her clients in creating awareness, finding purpose, developing their passions and making subtle, lasting changes in their lives.

A risk taker herself, Michelle’s experience with athletics, boating, scuba diving, and yoga inspire clients to take on their own challenges.  As a highly energetic, enthusiastic individual with a zest for life, she infuses her belief in the endless possibilities and potential of every human being into her work.  In addition, her creative spirit and curiosity impact her style as she often utilizes art journaling in helping clients move toward the life they envision.

Education and Experience

Michelle earned her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Edinboro University, and has completed additional training specifically focused on anxiety disorders and community counseling. She has been trained to work with a variety of anxiety disorders including, but not limited to, OCD and OCD Spectrum Disorders, Health Anxiety, Specific Phobias, Selective Mutism, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Panic Disorder.  Michelle is also a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) with Yoga Alliance. She incorporates the teaching of yoga in her therapeutic style.

The Daring Way™ and Rising Strong™

Michelle is a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator and has been certified to teach The Rising Strong™ curriculum, both methodologies based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown.   Michelle explores topics such as vulnerability, courage, shame, and worthiness with both private therapy clients and in workshops and retreats. The primary focus is on developing shame resilience skills and developing daily practices that transform the way we live, love, parent, and lead.

How I Practice

Taking a no-nonsense approach and gently asking tough questions, Michelle helps clients uncover the circumstances that led you to this moment.  Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure/Response Prevention and the methodology of Brené Brown are utilized to customize your therapy to meet your unique circumstances. She uses a team-based approach to work with individuals with eating disorders, approaching an eating disorder as an obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorder and working with psychiatrists, registered dieticians and primary care practitioners to assist the client on the road to recovery.

She provides all clients with useful tools and encouragement to approach life with confidence, emboldening you to make courageous changes.

Speaking and Workshops

As a dynamic speaker and workshop facilitator, Michelle’s enthusiasm and over 20 years of experience combine to provide you with engaging content delivered in a powerful way that resonates with participants.  Her presentations and workshops cover topics such as imperfection, personal growth, resilience, healthy relationships, the Daring Way™ and Rising Strong™.  Please contact me at mcurtze@verizon.net if you would like to be notified of upcoming classes.
